This privacy policy applies to the TypeShelf apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, including the TypeShelf keyboard (together, the "Apps"), made by Nikolay Rodionov ("we", "us"). It explains what data the Apps collect, why, and what you can do about it.
In short: your snippets stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. The keyboard never records or sends what you type. The iPhone and iPad app sends anonymous usage events so we can see which features help people, and purchase information is handled by Apple and RevenueCat. We don't sell data or show ads.
Snippets, tags and images you save are stored on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, they are also stored in the private iCloud database of your Apple Account, which only you can access. We cannot see your snippets.
The keyboard inserts the snippets you saved in the app. It does not record, store or send the text you type in other apps. To undo an insertion, it briefly looks at the text right before the cursor on your device; that text never leaves the keyboard.
iOS asks you to "Allow Full Access" for the keyboard. Full Access lets the keyboard read the snippets you saved in the app and paste images and clipboard content when you ask it to. With Full Access on, the keyboard also records which snippet you used (for the Statistics screen, on your device) and notes anonymous usage events for the app to send, as described below.
The app sends usage events to PostHog, an analytics service, on servers in the European Union. Events are tied to a random identifier created on your device, not to your name, email or Apple Account. They include:
Like any internet service, PostHog receives your IP address when the app connects to it, and may use it to estimate your approximate location (country and city). We don't collect precise location. Screen recording, automatic tap tracking and snippet text are never sent.
We use this to understand which features help people and to fix problems in the app.
Payments are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. To manage Premium, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase and subscription history, and basic device information. RevenueCat shares purchase events with PostHog under the same random identifier, so we can see how onboarding relates to upgrades.
The Mac app does not include analytics. It checks our website for updates; this request includes the app version and, like any web request, your IP address.
Usage events are kept for as long as they are useful to improve the app, and no longer than the retention period of our PostHog plan. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to provide Premium and meet legal obligations. Snippets are kept on your devices and in your iCloud until you delete them.
You can stop sending usage analytics at any time by turning off "Share usage data" in the app's Settings; events recorded by the keyboard are then discarded instead of sent. You can turn iCloud sync off in the app's settings, and turn off Full Access for the keyboard in iOS Settings at any time. Deleting the app removes its data from your device; data in your iCloud can be removed in your iCloud settings.
Depending on where you live, including in the European Union and the UK, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, and to object to its processing. We process usage analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app. To make a request, email rodionov.nikolay@gmail.com. Because analytics are tied to a random identifier rather than your identity, we may ask for details that help us find your data.
The Apps are not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Apps, contact us at rodionov.nikolay@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Snippets synced with iCloud are protected by Apple's iCloud security.
We may update this policy when the Apps change. We will post the new version on this page and update the date below.
